Wondering where LowerOakLawners run their errands? Check out these five community amenities — all less than five minutes from the apartments in the Design District.
1. The Best Watering Hole — For Your Car
Lower Oak Lawn is less than a mile away from Uptown’s cheapest gas — the Exxon station at the corner of Oak Lawn and Maple Avenue. (Or at least I have found it usually offers among the lowest prices.) If you’ve ever been to this station (0.8 miles) on a Friday afternoon, you’ll back me up that this is the primo fueling hole in the area.
After quenching your gas tank’s thirst, use the money you saved to get your car bright and shiny at the automatic carwash.
2. Get your Caffeine Fix
If you can’t function in the morning until you have at least two shots — of caffeine that is — Urban Dog Coffee (0.9 miles) has a great patio and even better cappuccino. For those craving the coffee that made Seattle famous, Starbucks (1.3 miles) is just a little hop up the road.
3. Late Night Munchies
Nothing cures those post-bar carb cravings like flour tortillas and queso or a crunchy taco. Fortunately for LowerOakLawners, Taco C (1.5 miles) is on the way home from most late night watering holes. With such close proximity, it will be hard for the cabbie to deny you a quick swing into the drive-thru before heading home.
Or you can opt for ordering pizza from Zini’s Pizzeria (1.4 miles). This locally owned pizzeria delivers until 4 a.m. and there’s nothing like a late night pizza pie.
4. Dry Cleaning
You haven’t ironed since…face it, you’ve never picked up an iron. That’s what dry cleaning is for, right? With Plaza Cleaner’s (1.5 miles) back-door drive thru you’ll be in and out in a flash. Join their preferred customer club and they will keep your information in their system so you don’t even have to take out your credit card. Take advantage of their “Tuesday Special” of 89 cent laundered men’s shirts. With most items costing under $3.99, you’re sure to save some green and time at the ironing board.
5. Grocery Shopping
Just one exit up the tollway, the Whole Foods on Lemmon Avenue (2.4 miles) is the grocery of choice for many LOL residents. Their pre-packaged meals are always fresh and an impressive option for a quick dinner for one or two. Plus, shopping at Whole Foods is an experience to savor.
Kroger on Cedar Springs (1.5 miles) is a closer in grocery store shopping option. They have great selection of products. Try out the turkey pastrami for your weekly lunch meat. It’s delish.

Don’t forget Eatzi’s!! Less than 3 miles away and the reason I haven’t used my oven in a year
How could I forget Eatzi’s — I think I’ve already got enough ideas for things I missed to compose a whole new post!
Oaklawn favorites:
1) Eatzis
2) Green Papaya
3) Zaguan – a delicious Latin bakery
4) Cafe Brazil (just off Oaklawn)
5) Conveniently located U.S. Post Office and the FedEx across the street for all of your shipping needs.
Also, there is a Kroger that is a lot closer than the Whole Foods, in case you are trying to purchase regular groceries.
Kendall,
You just described my entire life! Doggie Cafe, my gas station, my cleaners, and my grocery store! I love my neighborhood (even thought it isn’t “lower” but rather “upper” Oak Lawn).
where is Urban Dog… link only went to twitter. Thanks!
oh ok.. found it on their webpage!
So you definitely mentioned the Kroger. Oops.
