Daylight savings time begins this weekend and that means an extra hour of sleep on Saturday night! (Or an extra hour of partying, for the lushes out there.)
But, to tell you the truth, I already enjoy an extra hour of sleep every single morning! No, I’m not late to work every day. It’s simple: I live ridiculously close to my office. I mean, not to be smarmy, but living close to where you work means so much in terms of time, stress and getting that ever-important beauty sleep.
That got me thinking; so many of my friends spend over 30 minutes driving to and from work. That’s an hour every day! I can’t count the number of times I’ve wished upon a star that there were just one more hour in the day. Road warriors: this hour can be yours!
If you live in Lower Oak Lawn, your commute to anywhere near the Tollway, in the Galleria area, Downtown, Northwest Highway, or even Las Colinas would only be about 10 minutes; 15 max. Imagine what you could do with all that extra time you’re spending in traffic every day!
Since I started my job in the Design District I’ve embraced the wonder that is the Dallas North Tollway. I only venture over to 75 when it’s absolutely necessary. So, yes, my toll tag bill has gone up a bit. (But not as much as I thought it would…I know, so passé to you Dallas lifers…) Time is money people!
See the map below for sample commute times when you live in LOL and work on the tollway. Now that’s an eye opener!

Still need convincing? Check out my list of things, the practical and the tempting, that you could do with an extra hour each day:
Feel free to add your list own in the comments below. Enjoy your extra hour this Saturday and consider making it permanent by moving to LOL. Check out the Alexan Design District, Alta Design District, and (coming soon!) Alta 1900 Lofts apartments to see all the options you have in Lower Oak Lawn.
What would you do with an extra hour ever day if you could shorten your commute?

I live at Turtle Creek Terrace and work in the Design District (Yep! I’m one of those who refuses to revert to LOL). There’s no better way to commute than walking the Katy Trail on a crisp morning. Door-to-door is 30 minutes by foot or only 10 minutes on a bike. I love it!
No. 226 is a great place to live for just a little money, and Turtle Creek Terrace? It’s got to be the most convenient, quiet, friendly and affordable complex in Uptown. Check it out online then call me. I’m offering a one year membership to the Turtle Creek Association with a signed lease.

This is so true. You never realize how much you hate that commute until you do not have to do it anymore. Also, you can go home for lunch – save money and time and possibly catch a DVRed episode of your favorite flick.
Favorite DVRed flick…or if you time it perfectly catch up on One Life to Live (my fav soap
) And if you have a dog, you can take it out at lunch too. Save even more $ on doggy day care!
Great comment, love the design of the site too.
