Lofty Living at the Alta Design District + Apartment Steals of the Week

By on Nov 13, 2009 • One Comment (give us yours!)

Until a few weeks ago the Alta Design District was still under construction, but now the property is officially complete! I wanted to check out the finished product, so I headed over to get the official tour.

Amanda Adrian, the Alta DD’s adorable leasing manager, led my excursion, showed me the new sky deck and told me about the new juicy specials they have going on right now. I’m leaving a lot of good info out about their ameneties and common areas (gym, pool, sky deck, etc.) but I’ll leave those for you to check out on your own.

Lofty One Bedroom (A1 & A1-2) - $879

The Alta DD is currently running a special on certain locations of their A1 units. The A1 comes in two styles — with and without a balcony. The “without” option offers a larger living area.

Without a doubt, my favorite part of the one bedroom unit is the kitchen, which really just ties into the whole living area. It is large and very open. Here’s what I like best about this space:

  1. Urban Touches – The exposed duct work, high ceilings, sleek track lighting and pennant lamps over the island add a modern, urban feel to the apartment.
  2. Huge Cabinets – As any apartment dweller knows, the biggest issue in a one bedroom is storage. This kitchen is full of it.
  3. Spacious Island – More counter and cabinet space. Enough said. Islands are great for entertaining. I can just imagine a great bar set up here for a sophisticated housewarming soiree! Plus, the extended bar area would be perfect for watching TV while eating dinner!
  4. Dedicated Dining Area - Lots of one bedroom units don’t include the ever-important “dining room” space. An avid entertainer, I wouldn’t lease an apartment without one! How would I throw a dinner party without a dining table?

Another thing I really love about this layout is the amount of counter space it offers. You could leave your coffee maker and toaster plugged in and still have multiple work spaces left over for food prep. (I had to include this picture. I thought it was too stinkin’ cute that they set up the kitchen with a cupcake theme!)

Here’s a good picture that illustrates the lofty layout. No bedroom door? That’s right. But let’s be honest, when you live alone you don’t need one anyway!

Wrapping up the tour here is a shot of the bathroom and the balcony. I was surprised at how large the balcony was for a one bedroom.

My only beef with this floorplan is the lack of a linen closet. This might not be a biggie for guys but is something girls like me worry about. Coincidentally, I was browsing through the new CB2 catalog at lunch after I toured and found these cute, modern bathroom storage solutions. These would be great solutions for not having a linen closet. Cadet Cabinet (Left), Slat Rack (Right)

I took tons of more pictures of the one bedroom, which you can see on Flickr:

Roomy Two Bedroom (B2-1) – $1279

This two bedroom layout is super roomy, and super perfect for roommates! At 1,327 square feet it is the Alta’s largest unit and is going for less than $1 a square foot! What a steal.

Having a spacious common room is important for roommates. Check out these pictures showing off the common spaces in this apartment:

  1. Big Balcony - I forgot to snap a shot of the balcony, but it’s huge! You can fit a good sized patio set out there.
  2. Floor to Ceiling Windows - The abundance of natural light helps save on that utility bill!
  3. Dedicated Dining Space - Dinner parties, remember? See above.

  1. Kitchen Island - I love the flat stove top. You can clean it so much easier than a traditional stove top!
  2. “Urban Bronze” Colored Cabinets - Notice how this unit has different colored finishing than the one bedroom above. Each unit differs. (You can get the A1 in this color or the B1 in the cappuccino)
  3. Prime Decorating/Storage Space – The room above the cabinets is a fun spot to place decorative items. Or, you could use something like woven baskets for more storage.
  4. Large Pantry - I love that all the Alta DD units have dedicated pantries!

The bedrooms in this floorplan are astoundingly large. The one pictured below has a king bed with plenty of room to spare!

The only difference in the two sides of this apartment is that one side offers a shower plus tub while the other has only a stand up shower. The extra room on the shower-only side is used to accommodate a cute little desk area and coat closet.

Again, there are TONS more photos of the Alta DD on Flickr. (I even took the time to write out good captions so you better go look at them!)

    Hey Kendall!

I moved in to the Alexan Design District which is on Oak Lawn Ave and I absolutely love it! I ride my bike over to the katy trail, I am really close to great shops and restaurants…at first I was a little hesitant about the area, but there are police officers patrolling the area continuously and it is just really well illuminated and well kept

Thanks for the advice on moving here!
