The Cameron Gallery in the Dallas Design District is opening a new exhibit! New Orleans based artist James Michalopoulos, best known for his distinctive architectural renderings, will open his self titled exhibit next Saturday, December 12. His work will be on display at The Cameron Gallery through January 10, 2010.

James Michalopoulos exclusively exhibits oil paintings, has published two books and has been commissioned four times to create the official Jazz Fest poster. He describes his artistic style, saying:

“My style is an abstraction of the figurative. I like color, volumetric shape and graphic lines. While one knows my subject one knows more fully the spirit of the subject. I take my liberties and express my emotions in a poetic interpretation. The abstractions facilitate a direct expression of the core essence of my subject.”

Michalopoulos’ other notable projects include serving as the former Art Director of House of Blues Productions; the former Art Director of ABC in Concert; creating Old New Orleans Louisiana sugarcane rum, (the oldest rum distillery in the U.S); and running restaurant Etoile and wine shop Louisiana Star. He’s a busy guy!

In honor of the exhibit opening, The Cameron Gallery will host an artist reception on Saturday, December 12 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Guests will have the opportunity to meet James Michalopoulos while enjoying wine and cheese.
