This is the second in a series of posts called “Discovering the Design District.” Look forward to more posts with insight into the Design District and the Lower Oak Lawn neighborhood.
So now that you know where the Design District is, it’s time to figure out how to get here. Some might say this is one in the same, but I beg to differ.
It took me about three weeks of living in Dallas and more than a few illegal u-turns to realize that I desperately needed some sort of GPS. Two and half years later, I know my way around better but I still live by my iPhone maps and my Garmin.
But working in the Design District has posed one tiny problem: both Google and Garmin are slow to update road changes and neither has registered the new Oak Lawn exit off the Dallas North Tollway yet. In fact, they haven’t even updated road names around Victory Park! This poses a major problem for my GPS dependent lifestyle.
So for all of you directionally challenged like me, here are five easy ways to get to the Design District from pretty much anywhere in Dallas.
From the Dallas North Tollway North: Heading south on the Dallas North Tollway take the Oak Lawn exit. Make a right onto Oak Lawn Ave. Tada! Enter the Design District! Seriously, could it be any easier?!
From I-35 South: Driving north on I-35E, take exit 430A for Oak Lawn Ave. Make a slight left at N Stemmons Fwy. Take the 1st left onto Oak Lawn Ave. (Version 2): Take exit 429C for Hi Line Dr toward Victory Ave. Turn left at Hi Line Dr.
From Downtown/Victory: Driving north on N. Field Street, make a left onto Olive Street. At the light make a right onto Houston Street. The American Airlines Center will be on your left. Continue on Houston until it splits to the left, merging onto Hi Line Drive. Continue on Hi Line to Oak Lawn Ave.
From 75 North: Heading south on 75, take exit 1A toward I-35E S/Waco. Make a slight left at Woodall Rodgers Fwy then merge onto I-35E N via the ramp to Denton. Take exit 430A for Oak Lawn Ave. Make a slight left at N Stemmons Fwy. Take the 1st left onto Oak Lawn Ave.
