The great deals on two bedroom apartments in the Design District have me contemplating what exactly I would use the extra space for if I up-sized from my lofty one bedroom to a more spacious two bedroom. A home office, guest room, or something even more creative!? Seriously, the possibilities have had my mind spinning for weeks now.
I began to compile all my ideas with inspiration photos but with all my ideas, plus the ones I received from LOL fans on Facebook and Twitter, the post became much too long! So I’ve decided to break each idea into an individual post and turn the concept into an ongoing series!
Before I get to the goods, I wanted to share a few ground rules I set for myself on this project. First, I will not post any space ideas that can’t be recreated in an apartment setting. That means spaces that require built-ins, large spaces or special plumbing/lighting. Since this is an apartment series I felt it would only be appropriate to stick to the design and storage solutions that apartment dwellers would actually be able to implement.
Also, I’m not limiting myself to ideas that I would choose. Though the inspiration for this series was my own musings on what I’d do with a second room, I want to share ideas that might fit the bill for someone else, too. Many of the creative ideas I’ve got in the works were suggestions from LOL readers and want to make sure their ideas are included!
If you feel so inspired, browse the various two bedroom floor plans offered in the three Design District apartments, all in one place on Flickr in the Design District 2-Bedroom Floorplan Album. I promise, it will have you thinking of up-sizing yourself!
With that said, let’s kick off this series in style! Check out the first post: Moving on Up: Second Bedroom Yoga Studio.

I have always wanted a project room. In one corner I’d create a sewing space where I could leave my sewing machine out all the time. I’d also make room for a Murphy Bed. I’ve always admired the space-saving attributes of a Murphy Bed. In my project room I’d line the other walls with shelves and leave the middle of the room open for all the projects I enjoy…such as painting furniture, slip covering furniture, hot gluing, scrap booking, etc.
I wouldn’t be your daughter if I wasn’t already planning a post on that very topic!
