Tomorrow, Saturday April 10, The Cameron Gallery will be hosting an artist reception for abstract metal sculptor Nic Noblique from 6-9:oo pm. The young artist is making his return to Dallas just two short years after his studio, equipment, and all of his work were destroyed in Hurricane Ike, the 2008 storm that devastated the island of Galveston, Texas.
In his interview with Art+Culture DFW, Nic describes how the title of this show and the pieces included in it reflect his challenge to rebuild after the hurricane.
The title of the show, “Grind Hassle Jump Jam,” is a reference to what my last year and a half or so has been like. What I’ve had to do to survive and produce a new body of work, which is this show. It’s been a chaotic roller coaster. Figuring out how to rebuild my life after the hurricane and just very, very slowly putting the pieces back together again while dealing with one obstacle after another.
Check out more of the interview by picking up a copy of A+C’s April issue or see a copy of the interview which I attempted to scan.
His eight new sculpture pieces and oil paintings will be on display until May 10, so if you can’t make it by tomorrow, you can still stop by and check it out.
