Tonight’s Rare Brew at The Moth: Cask-Conditioned Stone Smoked Porter

By on Aug 18, 2010 • No Comments (give us yours!)

Stone Smoked PorterToday’s rare cask at The Meddlesome Moth comes from Stone Brewing Co. out of Escondido, CA which has been named one of the top ten breweries in America. Tonight’s featured ale is a cask-conditioned Smoked Porter. A porter is substantially darker than a pale ale, but not as black or opaque as a stout. {Even I learned something new on this one!}

A few notes paraphrased from Stone Brewing Co’s web site: The Stone Smoked Porter is dark, rich and complicated. Its captivating deep mahogany color is complemented by a silky dark tan head. Smooth, with chocolate and coffee-like flavors balanced by the subtle “smoky” character of just the right amount of peat-smoked specialty malt.

As always, things get started at 5 pm sharp. See you at happy hour!
