Color Trends: Bring on the Orange!

By on Aug 19, 2010 • 5 Comments (give us yours!)

The weather in the Dallas Design District might still be screaming summer, but it’s the fall fabric trends that have designers buzzing. A quick trip through the fabric showrooms and it’s easy to see that in terms of color, it’s the oranges, corals and pumpkin hues that are leading the way in this season’s collections. With fall collections out soon, I predict this color story will to continue as the bright summer oranges melt into the warm pumpkin shades.

Orange & Pumpkin

Many designer collections this season use orange as a foundation color for their new lines. For instance, Thom Felicia (of Queer Eye fame) uses orange generously in his collection for Kravet. The collection contains beautiful linens which are great for window treatments and pillows as well as heavier weight tweeds and patterns that are perfect for upholstery. A full color range from darks to lights is found is this versatile collection.

Also, the new Barry Dixon collection for Vervain uses pumpkin shades in several of its designs. Cacao Vine (below, top left) is a beautiful linen that pairs the pumpkin with 2010′s hottest neutral — gray!

The combination of pumpkin and gray is a sophisticated way to bring orange tones into a space. This elegant combo can dance between traditional and contemporary with ease and grace.

Purple, another of this year’s hot colors, pairs perfectly with pumpkin. This new embroidery from Lee Jofa’s Groundworks line is a real show stopper.

Coordinating fabrics in this colorway can bring depth and texture to a great print. These non-traditional flame stitch patterns bring in the color purple with a bit of panache!

Chiang Mai Dragon from Schumacher, a designer favorite this season, pairs well with pumpkin colored textures and geometrics.

Coral

Coral is another color that has made a big splash this summer. Paired with crisp whites, soft aquas and even rich browns, this shade is a true standout.

Aphrodites Treasures from Brunswig & Fils (left), puts a fun spin on the color with an off-the-wall beach-inspired print. Duralee’s outdoor collection, Bella Dura, features a reef-inspired print of coral colored coral!

One of my new favorites from Vervain is this Ceylon print. This pattern feature hints of aqua and coral, plus a huge touch of whimsy! Isn’t this print just magical?

So before the cool breeze of fall is upon us, there’s still time to add some color and style with all things orange.

I’m excited to see all the new collections that the fabric houses will be introducing for fall, and you’ll see them first right here at Lower Oak Lawn. Orange, in all it’s hues and shades, is sure to have a signature place in the new fall lines. Stay tuned!!
