Update: Krystal Clear is no longer in business in the Dallas Design District.

Let’s face it, the Design District moniker doesn’t exactly exude manliness. Yet among the furnishings, antiques and fabrics, tucked away on Hi Line Drive, exists an A/V oasis poised to intrigue even the manliest of men.
Krystal Clear Audio-Video is a full service residential audio/video, lighting, and home automation company featuring in-house custom installation and design services. A trip to their showroom last month left even me, the girliest of girls, dreaming in high-definition.
Upon entry to the showroom I was welcomed by a Dave Matthews tune. An oldie but a goodie — great first impression. Next I was greeted by the showroom’s animated owner, Don Krasen. Don’s passion for music is infectious and a 20 minute visit soon turned into a two hour music-filled tour and jam session. (Yes, I mean jam session.)

As he guided me through the multiple demo rooms he has set up to show off different television, lighting and acoustical arrangements, we would stop and take in the an action flick with some serious surround sound or jam out to the Eagles.

Oh, and we played with some of the coolest remote controls I’ve ever seen! I was particularly impressed by the room that houses his entire record collection. It’s quite a sight!

Along the way, Don pointed out pictures and press write ups on the various impressive project’s Krystal Clear has completed — from outdoor speaker set ups to top of the line home theaters. (Some of the pics he shared are peppered throughout this post.)

While the acoustically optimized, tricked out demo rooms were fun to experience, I enjoyed the fact that Don also took the time to show me a handful of audio options that are more suited for a budget conscious, apartment dweller like myself. He totally gets that not everyone has the space or budget for a full-on media room.
One of the highlights of the visit was getting a demo of the Meridian F-80. Other than its sleek red exterior, the compact music system doesn’t look like anything particularly special.

The sound that comes out of that little speaker knocked the socks right off my feet! No seriously, this thing makes my Bose dock sound like AM radio. I was particularly impressed when Don pointed out that you could actually hear the plucking of individual guitar strings. Seriously!
If you’re a music or media junkie, you should definitely head over to Krystal Clear Audio/Video, meet Don and check it out for yourself! I can promise you, it will be an all-out musical experience!
