Love in LOL: Julie & Scott’s Design District Engagement Photo Shoot

By on Jan 28, 2010 • 5 Comments (give us yours!)

With Valentines Day just around the corner, love is in the air! And the Design District is no exception. A few weeks ago, my recently engaged friends Julie and Scott met up with husband and wife photographers Kelli and Brandan from nine photography to shoot a set of engagement portraits. Little did they know when they started the shoot that they’d end up spending the majority of their time in the Design District or being featured on my blog!

The shoot started out in Arlington Park where they posed with their adorable maltese puppies, Pablo and Matisse. Then, Kelly and Brandan made the suggestion to move things over to the Dallas Design District.

“We had never shot in the Design District but have been down there many, many times,” Kelly explained. “When Julie and Scott said they wanted to do something with a Dallas theme, including some Dallas skyline shots, we knew immediately we wanted to take them to the Design District.” In her previous job, Julie spent a lot of time in the areas’ showrooms so she was thrilled with the idea.

And boy, did the pictures turn out fabulously! Not only do Julie and Scott look super cute, but nine did a great job finding fun, interesting backdrops for the photos that make for great conversation pieces.

Head over Heels

This is by far my favorite photo. The coolest thing is that they are actually standing up; the picture is flipped upside down! What a cool effect!

Where to find it: It is taken in front of the vine-covered exterior of Statement Furniture on Slocum Street. (Google Street View)

Light of my Life

Taken by the window display at the Pettigrew showroom in the Dallas Decorative Center, the chandelier in the picture has almost as much sparkle as Julie’s beautiful engagement ring!

This pic is one of Julie’s favorites. She explained “The details and beauty of the chandelier are a great conversation piece. We already had this print framed and hung in our house. Not many people realize that it is an engagement photo — which is exactly what we wanted!”

Where to find it: This shot was taken on the corner of the Pettigrew showroom building that sits on Oak Lawn Avenue. (Google Street View)

LOVE-ly

The Design District shoot wouldn’t have been complete without a few pics in front of this iconic hot pink building facade. “We had seen a few pictures taken by other local photographers by this wall, but since we had never been ourselves, it was a must. The colors in that alley way are so vibrant!” Kelly explained.

Where to find it: You can find this cool backdrop in the alley behind Riverfront and Dragon Street –  just off of Howell Street. This warehouse is the home of 7 Senses, an event planning company. The green loading dock door shown in the first picture in this post is immediately across the alleyway. (Google Street View)

These are some of my other favs. The shot at dusk down the alleyway where they are holding hands is so adorable!

Where to find it: (Left) This is the only shot I couldn’t figure out on my own. Bonus points to anyone who can figure it out and posts the answer in the comments! (Top right) The green loading dock door is listed above. (Bottom right) This is taken down the same alley as the pink and green walls at dusk.

According to Julie, her favorite is this Dallas skyline shot. Since they are having a destination wedding, they wanted a shot to capture their home town.

Where to find it: This great downtown view can be found on the top floor of a parking garage on Slocum Street near the Dallas Design Center.
