2010 has been a stellar year here in the Dallas Design District. I’ve had so much fun bringing you the latest and greatest that Lower Oak Lawn has to offer. Today I wanted to share a few prize moments from my year in Lower Oak Lawn. Thanks for reading and see you in 2011!

I love everything about my apartment, especially the blue accent wall in my bedroom!
For those of you who didn’t already know, I live in Lower Oak Lawn. I made the move in January 2010 and could not be happier. I simply adore my little urban loft! (Okay, so it’s not that little. It’s actually a major upgrade from my previous 600 square feet!) In the eleven months I’ve lived in my apartment, I’ve rearranged my living room 5+ times. I love the flexibility of my open floor plan which is not only great for re-imagining spots for my furniture, but for entertaining as well.
It’s so convenient living in the District. Being near all the showrooms and galleries who are constantly hosting events really helps me out with work activities. Also, I love the amenity base in Oak Lawn. I’m now a regular at Urban Dog Coffee and love having the Walgreens, Kroger, nail salon and dry cleaners off of Oak Lawn so close by. (Shout out to Hollywood Nails. Best pedis in town!)
The best part of living in LOL has been the friendships I’ve made with my apartment staff and other LOL residents. It’s a tight knit community and everyone is so friendly. I’ve been blessed with wonderful neighbors who also happen to have incredibly cute dogs!

My jeans were soaking wet when I got up but the snow angel I left behind was totally worth it!
Who could forget the Dallas blizzard of 2010? It was, hands down, one of my favorite days of the year! Though all of Dallas was covered in snow, I took particular joy in seeing my own Design District covered in a blanket of white. Even the concrete fortress that is the Dallas Design Center looked majestic.
Although I about froze my fingers off and almost ruined my camera, I had so much fun traipsing around the deserted District taking pictures. The day ended with a snowball fight at the Camden Design District followed by snow angel making at 1900 Lofts and hot chocolate in the warm office. Now that was a great day!

Somehow in all my picture taking, I forgot to get one of myself! Here's a snapshot from another great gallery night in the District.
Most people shudder at the thought of working on the night of their birthday, but this year I just could not imagine it any other way. You see, sometimes my job just doesn’t feel like work! When I saw that my 26th birthday fell on the same day as the Design District’s annual Design on Dragon celebration, I was actually pretty excited.
Unlike the previous year when I was still a LOL newbie, I knew exactly which stops I wanted to make and had plenty of friends to see. I chronicled the adventures of the evening in my recap post which you can read for more detail but I just couldn’t fail to put it on my list of best memories.

The PegasuAblon crew at The Meddlesome Moth.
Let’s face it, most every night I’ve spent at the Moth has been a good one. And on account of being there so often, many of the nights really do run together. But there was one this year that particularly stood out — May 19, 2010.
It was just a week or two after The Meddlesome Moth had opened for business, and it was a big night for the District — the three apartments hosted a joint happy hour at their new neighborhood watering hole and designers gathered at Scott+Cooner for the annual Spring Thing Kickoff Party. I’d been working the camera all evening, snapping photos of guests for LowerOakLawn.com and hanging out with a few friends who were there to enjoy the festivities.
The weather was perfect. We didn’t get in a car all evening, instead we utilized the newly improved sidewalks up and down Hi Line Drive. After an evening of hard work a group from the Spring Thing party decided to head back to The Moth for some food and drinks.
When I arrived the place was hopping. I was greeted by a table of coworkers who were out to see what our newest tenant had to offer. My friends grabbed a seat at the bar and I pulled up a chair alongside the work crew.
I don’t remember what we talked about that evening, I was too tired at that point. But I just remember looking around the room, seeing the place packed with smiling, laughing, familiar faces. The vision for Lower Oak Lawn was being realized and I felt incredibly lucky to be a part of it.
