Dallas Design District Directory

Decorative Center Dallas.Directory1

This is where it all began. Flash back to the 1950s. Mid-century Modern was happening but no one thought to call it mid-century at the time. Dallas designers traveled to showrooms in New York or Chicago or waited for a manufacturer’s rep to call on them. Then E. C.Dicken put an idea in Trammell Crow’s head and Decorative Center Dallas became a reality. At last, Dallas designers could view trade merchandise up close and personal without hopping on a plane.

Decorative Center Dallas’ roots are evident in its architectural design. But my how times have changed! Now it is kept company by the Dallas Design Center, The International on Turtle Creek, 1444 Oak Lawn, and the myriad of wonderful showrooms on Dragon, Slocum and all the surrounding streets.

The bustling Dallas Design District has passed its own mid-century mark but it has never been more young and hip. Take a trip to the Decorative Center and see where it all started.
